Thank you for coming to celebrate with us, and travelling to this special little town!
Wedding Venue: 1295 Eber Road, Ucluelet, BC
We'd like to share some travel tips that we hope make your trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible. There are a few options for folks travelling from out of town, and depending on the scope of your trip, you can decide which option makes the most sense for you and your party.
Air and Ferry Travel:
For those flying to BC, airports we recommend flying to are: Vancouver (YVR), Victoria (YYJ), Nanaimo (YCD), or Comox (YQQ). While there is a small local airport in Tofino (YAZ), low cloud or fog can really disrupt flights and we don't want you to run into travel problems. Getting a connecting flight from the city of Vancouver to Vancouver Island is very easy, whether you opt for a traditional flight or a sea plane with Harbour Air Seaplanes. Alternatively, if you fly into Vancouver and rent a car there, taking BC Ferries is an easy option and will get you to either Nanaimo or Victoria.
In our opinion, flying directly to Vancouver Island (Victoria, Nanaimo, or Comox) is the best option, unless you plan to explore Vancouver as a part of your trip.
Please keep drive times in mind as you book your trip:
- Nanaimo and Comox airports are a 3 hour drive from Ucluelet.
- Victoria airport is a 4.5 hour drive from Ucluelet.
If you do opt to fly to Vancouver and take a ferry to Vancouver Island, keep in mind that the drive time from YVR to a ferry terminal can be about 1 hour. There are two ferry terminals in Vancouver, and ferry sailings take approximately 2 hours to travel from Vancouver to either of the Vancouver Island terminals (Nanaimo or Victoria).
*** If you intend to take BC Ferries from Vancouver to Vancouver Island you MUST book a reservation, as there are major sailing waits in summer months for passengers without reservations ***
We also recommend booking your accommodations as soon as possible. Ucluelet is an international tourist destination in the summer and options will book up months in advance.
Where to stay:
Ucluelet has many places to stay but very little to offer in the way of transit or taxi services (there is one taxi!). The town is small however, and very walkable to get to shops, cafes, restaurants, as well as the wedding venue which is quite central. That being said, if your accommodation is at the far south end of the peninsula or in an area called 'Millstream' (north of town), walking to/from the wedding venue might not be an option. Take a look at the following maps showing approximate 15 and 30 minute walking distances from the wedding venue. We do not recommend booking accommodation in Tofino, as this is 40km north of Ucluelet (do visit though!).
*** Stay tuned for info on a late-night shuttle service from the wedding venue, to ensure you get home safely wherever you end up staying ***
Accommodation options include:
- Hotels/resorts such as Black Rock Oceanfront Resort, The Cabins at Terrace Beach, or Terrace Beach Resort.
- Suites/Inns such as Pluvio Restaurant and Rooms, The Francis Boutique Inn, Snug Harbour Inn, or Reef Point Cottages.
- AirBnb and VRBO rentals offer loads of options across different price points, and with a variety of amenities.
This is just a start, but there are also a number of other options including motels and a hostel that are very central in town, private bed and breakfasts, as well as campgrounds that could be fun especially if you choose to explore the coast by RV or camper as many visitors do!
